About Me

My name is Mike Essex, and I'm a professional blagger; which makes me an expert in getting stuff for free. Freebie-Man (also known as Blagman) was a project I ran from 2005-2009 which was an attempt to see what products a normal bloke could get for free by asking nicely. It seemed celebrities could get anything they wanted, and I'd been able to get games for free by writing about them so I figured I'd be able to get other stuff for free in return for a 500 word review.

The project became very addictive, with each new free product presenting a chance to try something new. This included everything from a car to a kitchen sink with over 350 products in all. Everything was written about on this blog and a complete list of blags can be found here. The site even made it on to the news, with interviews in USA Today, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC News, The Times and many more.

By the time I'd finished the project my University days were over, I had a full time job at a digital marketing agency and decided it was time to draw the project to a close. Realising my house was full of freebies I decided it was time to clear the decks and give my blags away. All the freebies I hadn't used to death or eaten were included as part of a giant charity raffle in the Birmingham Twitter Festival and that was the true end of Freebie-Man.

But it didn't stop there. I started getting emails from people asking how to get free stuff. So I started giving away my secrets and wrote two books on the topic. You can read these posts on the blog, or drop me an email on mike@blagman.co.uk to see how I can help you.

My Policy

Every product on this site has been received for free, and given to me by the product manufacturer or their associated PR organisation in return for a review.

I have no other personal or business association with these companies, and all reviews are written truthfully and based on my own experience. If I hate a product I will say so (and have done on many occasions!).
